West Hampstead Square, London

Groundworks & Substructure RC Works

Client: O’Hare & McGovern Ltd
Value: £2,250,000

FBCS was awarded the project by way of competitive tender.

The site was a mixed use development comprising 7 nr high rise blocks. The site was accessed from the busy West End Lane in West Hampstead. The site was located between West Hampstead underground and overground stations with rail lines bordering the site on the North & South elevations.

The works commenced with a 15,000m3 bulk dig operation followed by the construction of a 220m long RC retaining wall which incorporated trench sheet piling along the London Underground boundary.

Following the piling to each block, reinforced pile caps were constructed, followed by reinforced overground beams.
An RC basement box was constructed to 2 nr blocks.

Drainage and services were also installed incorporating 4 nr large attentuation tanks.

This site was particular challenging by way of the logistical issues encountered as follow on trades commenced operations on site as we progressively completed the foundations to each block. The site was also constrained by the single lane access roadway for incoming and outgoing site traffic.
